The premise of Live/Work/Play was to design a recording studio that also accommodated live performances and short-term residence. As the site was small and triangular, it was necessary to maximize space without jeopardizing the public nature of the building by eliminating the thoroughfare. The entire building is lifted up — only the lobby and are at ground level. The plans generally follows the shape of the site, but features a cutaway to maximize window views and separate private space (the living quarters) with public space (the store/café). The recording studio doubles as a stage with folding panels. This allows minimal set-up time and impromptu performances.
